You're Doing What
Really Matters!

Dear Friends,
As a caregiver you're doing a lot and . . . you're doing more than you may realize.
It's not unusual for a caregiver to say "I'm only . . . " or "I just
. . . " when describing helping a loved one. And then to continue
with an example of someone who's "doing so much more." Someone who
"has it so much harder."
Your perspective isn't surprising. In a similar way, there are
others who have a harder time when it comes to their jobs, their
finances, their family relationships, their health and so on. But
that doesn't mean
your
job, finances, family relationships, health and all the rest are
trouble-free or worry-free.
What you're doing as a caregiver --what God has invited you to do
and what you've agreed to do -- is unique because you and your loved
one are like no other two people in the world. Because your shared
history and relationship are unique. Because your abilities and
other obligations and his or her needs are one-of-a-kind.
But still . . . what you're doing is more than what you may
realize you're doing.
You're doing what -- Christ says in
Matthew
25:31-46
--
really matters.
"When
the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he
will sit upon his glorious throne, and all the nations will be
assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as
a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
"He will
place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
"Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.'
"Then the righteous will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?'
"And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.'"
You and your loved one remain in my prayers, too.
